The second phase, which included indoor facilities, operating theaters, and a 6-bedded ICU/CCU, commenced on February 24, 1985. In 1993, with the extension of Japanese cooperation to TUTH, 100 additional beds were added, including a new operating theater, an ICU complex, Annex I with 50 beds, and Annex II with 50 beds. Throughout its history, TUTH has fostered collaboration between Nepal and Japan. Many doctors, nurses, paramedics, and engineers have been trained in Japan in the medical fields and have gained valuable insight into Japanese work culture. Likewise, Japanese doctors and volunteers have made significant contributions to the health services and training of health manpower in Nepal through TUTH. Today, TUTH stands as the top referral hospital in the country and a public hospital in Kathmandu with approximately 850 beds. It provides clinical training to medical doctors, nurses, and paramedics at various levels, ranging from graduate to Ph.D. The products of IOM Teaching Hospital, affiliated with TUTH, now serve the entire country and even abroad.TUTH is recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensively equipped hospitals in Nepal, serving the healthcare needs of the nation.
