Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program at KIST Medical College & Teaching Hospital is a five-and-a-half-year undergraduate medical degree affiliated with Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Medicine (IOM). This comprehensive program is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in basic medical sciences, clinical skills, and professional ethics, preparing them to become competent and compassionate medical doctors.

The curriculum is divided into distinct phases, beginning with pre-clinical studies in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, followed by para-clinical training in pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and forensic medicine. The final years focus on clinical rotations in major hospital departments including internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, and community medicine. Throughout the program, students gain extensive hands-on experience through bedside teaching, case presentations, and supervised patient care at KIST’s own NABH-accredited teaching hospital.

Emphasis is placed on problem-based learning, communication skills, research orientation, and community health exposure, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for their compulsory internship, medical licensure, and eventual practice or postgraduate specialization in Nepal’s evolving healthcare system.
