The Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery at KIST Medical College & Teaching Hospital is a three-year postgraduate residency program affiliated with Tribhuvan University's Institute of Medicine (IOM). This comprehensive program trains medical graduates to become specialist surgeons capable of managing a broad spectrum of surgical conditions. The curriculum encompasses in-depth training in gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, colorectal surgery, trauma and critical care, and minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. Residents acquire extensive hands-on experience through supervised operating theatre sessions, emergency duty, outpatient clinics, and ward management. The program emphasizes evidence-based surgical decision-making, ethical practice, and research, requiring the completion of a thesis. Graduates are equipped to practice as independent consultant surgeons, pursue academic careers, or advance to super-specialty training (MCh) in fields like gastrointestinal or surgical oncology.
